Remote Control Locomotive Technology

Remote Control Locomotive (RCL) technology allows a trained rail yard operator to perform switching operations to direct a locomotive by sending digital signals to its onboard computer. Before remote control, rail yard operators and engineers communicated by radio or through a series of hand signals. RCL technology has been widely used in Canada for over a decade and has been credited with dramatic reductions in switching accident rates.
